Jamal Adams has made it clear that he wants out of New York but the Cleveland Browns should steer clear

No matter how you look at it, having star talent on your roster is almost always a positive. That said, I do believe that you can have “too much” star power. For the Cleveland Browns, adding Jamal Adams would put them in that category, being just one of many reasons why they should stay away from the star safety.

Don’t get me wrong, Adams is a very good safety that will without a doubt help whatever team he ends up on. When it comes to the Browns, it just doesn’t make sense.

Per cbssports.com, Adams could want upwards of $20 million per year in a new contract. Why on earth would the Browns spend that much, especially after signing Karl Joseph and drafting Grant Delpit?

While Adams is clearly better than both of those two guys, given Delpit has not played a game yet and Joseph still has some room to grow. That said, I believe that the safety room has some depth and will surprise some people this season.

Joseph has had one interception every season in his career, and last year finished with 49 combined tackles. Delpit comes in as a rookie with a decent amount of expectations as many thought he would get drafted earlier than he did and most thought he fell pretty low.

Adams also brings a ton of personality along with him, something the Browns currently have a lot of, and I’m not sure they need more of it. Adams may be a reliable safety as well as a very versatile one, but when you look at the Browns situation, it just does not make sense for them to try and pull of a trade like this.

However, if the Browns were to try and go after this trade, Adams is set to make just under $4 million dollars this year on the last year of his current contract. If the Browns are serious about this season and really think they could compete, don’t be too blown away if they try to go after him to make a run this year.

Overall, the one year trade scenario does not make too much sense because the Jets are going to most likely look for a 1st and a 3rd round pick at least, making Adams a very expensive “rental” option. The Browns may have the most cap space in the league, but that does not mean they don’t have to pay their rookie contract guys who have upcoming contracts that expire soon.
