Another name who has been brought up amongst Browns fans to possibly take over as Cleveland’s starting right guard in 2020 is last years starting right tackle Chris Hubbard. Hubbard spent the last two years as the starting right tackle after signing a five-year, $37.5 million deal in 2018.

After some strong years as a reserve and spot starter for the Steelers, Hubbard came to Cleveland to solidify the right side of the line. Two years later, Hubbard had to renegotiate his deal to remain on the roster.

The last two years have been nowhere close to what the Cleveland Browns thought they were getting when they signed Hubbard to his deal. Initially, the idea seemed like a way to salvage a lousy contract in hopes of Hubbard excelling in the new system. In retrospect, it is highly unlikely the Browns front office ever thought of moving Hubbard.

It is more likely that Berry always intended Hubbard to be the backup at right tackle if he was willing to restructure. While some fans still might want to see Hubbard get a shot at right guard, he is more valuable to the Browns as the top backup to Jack Conklin or Jedrick Wills at left tackle.
