This upcoming season is pivotal for Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield

It was not the 2019 season we all wanted to see from the Cleveland Browns, and plenty of that fell on Baker Mayfield.

Yes, the Browns had often a joke of a decision-maker in-game in then-head coach Freddie Kitchens. No, the pass protection especially at the starting tackles in Gregg Robinson and Chris Hubbard was not up to par a bunch of the time.

Kitchens’ play-calling after the early stages of games didn’t help Mayfield, either. The same went for other parts of the Browns offense in 2019, too.

Nonetheless, one can’t help but admit Mayfield underwhelmed. Year two was one where he seemingly regressed, and again while that was not solely on him, it played into the Browns having a disappointing 6-10 record.

This coming season, though, is one where Mayfield should shine. The Browns should have big upgrades at the starting tackle positions in Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills Jr., and now-head coach Kevin Stefanski should help.

Stefanski’s system is one that is tight-end friendly, and that should aid Mayfield particularly well. One of Mayfield’s favorite targets in David Njoku being healthy won’t hurt, either.

Needless to say, Mayfield, with the weaponry at his disposal, and better play-calling not so reliant on longer-developing plays, should be very successful. DPD’s own Randy Gurzi hitting on how the Browns could have a top-10 offense in 2020 recently points to how there’s no excuse for Mayfield, too.

In that realm, here we’ll highlight three goals for Mayfield in 2020 for the Cleveland Browns.

The first of these three goals for the third-year QB has to do with his accuracy, which was anything but a strength for him in 2019.
