4. Move into top-5 passing yardage for Browns

In two seasons, Baker Mayfield has 29 starts and has appeared in 30 games. That’s really not much time at all for the Cleveland franchise when you consider they have been around since 1946 — minus the five years we were left without a football team thanks to Art Modell.

Even with the amount of time Baker has spent with the team amounting to just the blink of an eye, he’s already moving up the record books. For example, he enters 2020 already in the top-10 for passing yardage in team history.

Right now, he’s sitting at 7,552 yards which has him in striking distance of the No. 5 spot which is currently occupied by Tim Couch. The No. 1 pick in 1999, Couch spent five seasons in Cleveland and played in 62 games with 59 starts. He finished with 11,131 yards passing which is just 3,579 more than Mayfield has at this point.

Mayfield is averaging 3,776 yards per season so far which makes it seem as though he’s all but guaranteed to surpass that mark. Should he do so in just three seasons it would speak to the fact that the Browns simply haven’t had a lot of continuity at the position since the days of Brian Sipe, Otto Graham, and Bernie Kosar.

There’s also the fact that the NFL is much more pass-happy now which allows Mayfield to jump the spots more quickly. Even with that being the case, getting into the top-5 for a storied franchise before your rookie contract is up is an impressive feat nonetheless.
