2. Most passing yards in a season for Browns

Last season might have felt like a major letdown for Baker Mayfield but it was still one of the most productive in terms of passing yardage the team has ever seen. Mayfield finished with 3,827 yards through the air which landed him at No. 4 all-time on the team’s single-season record book.

As for his first season, in which he only played 13 and a half games, Mayfield finished with 3,725 yards which lands him seventh in Browns history. The fact that he accomplished that without starting the first three games was why there was hope that he could improve last season and top the 4,000-yard mark.

Had he done so, he would have only been the second player in Cleveland history to ever throw for 4,000-yards in one year. Despite their long history, only once has a player accomplished this feat for the Browns, which happened when Brian Sipe won the NFL MVP after throwing for 4,132 yards. Sipe also possesses the second most yardage, following up his MVP performance with 3,876 yards through the air.

In today’s passing era, it’s odd to see a franchise with only one player crossing the 4,000-yard plateau but again, it speaks to the fact that the Browns simply haven’t been able to field a consistent starter in the modern era.

Mayfield is hoping to change that for good and setting the record for the most yardage in team history would go a long way toward cementing him as the starter well beyond his rookie contract.
