Cleveland Browns: Who’s left behind starter Austin Hooper if David Njoku is traded?
By Josh Brown
1. Harrison Bryant
Most people may argue that rookie Harrison Bryant would benefit most from a David Njoku trade. The mindset here is that, as a fourth-round pick, Bryant is a lock to make the roster.
All the other tight ends are fighting to make the team. He will be the tight end that should benefit the most from a production standpoint if he can hang on to the second spot on the depth chart.
Bryant comes to Cleveland after a strong senior season at Florida Atlantic, catching 65 balls for 1004 yards. He would also score seven touchdowns. Those numbers led FAU in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and scrimmage yards.
That season placed Bryant at the top of the college tight end list as the John Mackey award winner for the best tight end in the country.
The talent is there, but Bryant is going from a mid-major to the NFL, that is a big leap. Bryant has to get stronger and work to better his blocking if he is to hold the second spot on the depth chart.
I am sure this front office would like the options within to step up and fill the roles needed to succeed. Having to go out on the free-agent market or hope for someone to get cut is not the way you want to fill such an important role within the offense.
All of this is likely why they are pushing so hard to make Njoku feel important to the team; he is.
