Three defensive tackles are currently under contract for the 2021 season: Sheldon Richardson, who will be a free agent in 2022 and is turning 30-years-old this season, 2020 third-round draft pick Jordan Elliot, and undrafted free agent Jeffrey Whatley.

Larry Ogunjobi has been a delightful surprise for the Cleveland Browns, as the former third-round pick has established himself as a starter on the team for the past two seasons. Even though last season he seemed to have taken a step back, it’s hard to fault him for that, as almost everyone on the roster followed suit.

Entering the final year of his contract, Ogunjobi is likely the next player on Andrew Berry’s list to sign to an extension. Unlike the others on this list, his age and his position should not hinder his value on the open market. He also is going to be an unrestricted free agent, which means he easily could be playing somewhere else in 2021.

If Ogunjobi is able to hit free agency, he will most likely sign elsewhere. At 26-years-old, along with the consistent sack numbers he has been able to draw from the defensive tackle position, he will be a hot commodity. Some rebuilding team out there, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, would likely pay Ogunjobi a nice check to leave the Cleveland Browns.

Negotiating an extension before the end of the season should be at the top of the Browns priority list now, especially before his value skyrockets.
