Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is rated 78 in Madden 21. That rating seems a touch low for the young quarterback with so much talent. Mayfield struggled mightily last year, but that was not all his fault.

A large part of his struggles came from lack of offensive lineman play – except for Tretter and Bitonio – and also bad play-calling from the head coach. Mayfield had some accuracy problems and decision-making errors which cannot be overlooked, but he is a much better quarterback than his 78 rating.

His rookie season, Mayfield broke the rookie record for most touchdowns in a season with 27. He broke the record previously held by Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson, and did so in only 13 starts. He was the Heisman Trophy winner and first overall selection for a reason; the kid can play.

To be fair, Mayfield shouldn’t be anywhere close to 85 overall after his poor season, but an overall of 81 seems reasonable for him. His current rating has him tied for 18th best in the league. 18th does not seem too far off after last year, but Madden has Derek Carr and Ryan Tannehill as the two quarterbacks right ahead of Mayfield which can be debated.

The rating itself seems too low for Mayfield more so than his ranking amongst quarterbacks. But with a productive season this year with a better offensive line, good play-calling, and healthy receivers, Mayfield could skyrocket his overall. Look for him to have a great season.
