After laying an egg in 2019, the spotlight will be brighter than ever on the Cleveland Browns offense in 2020. After a regression last season on offense, the organization and fans will need Baker Mayfield to prove he is the franchise quarterback moving forward.

While some experts have already chalked up Mayfield as an average quarterback, the Browns fanbase has held strong and have had his back. After years of disappointment, creating mass roster turnover year after year, that says something about the young man. Additionally for Mayfield, he has three huge factors on his side heading into 2020, of which only one was on his side last year.

One – a competent head coach and offensive coordinator. Yes, Kevin Stefanski is still a first-year head coach, but his experience as an offensive coordinator will help him quickly be far more superior than Freddie Kitchens. It was obvious early last season Kitchens was in over his head and the Haslam’s did the right thing pulling the plug quickly.

Two – a completely overhauled offensive line. With major upgrades at left and right tackle, plus the addition of respected offensive line coach Bill Callahan, look for Mayfield to get comfortable in the pocket next season, which never happened in 2019. With time for plays to develop, Stefanski and company could hang some staggering numbers in 2020.

Three – Mayfield will have arguably the best running back tandem in the NFL. While the Browns offense was horrid last season, Nick Chubb was still the second-leading rusher in the NFL. Keep in mind, that is with very average offensive tackles and predictable play-calling.

As the organization and fans are ready to start 2020 and put 2019 in the past, let’s look at the running back depth chart heading into the season. Look for this cast to be a crucial part of 2020 success as Stefanski looks to pound the football on the ground while wearing down opposing defenses.
