5 defensive players on the bubble at Cleveland Browns training camp

The Cleveland Browns are set to begin their full team camp practice schedule Friday. With a roster that is more solidified than it has been in the past twenty years, there are still a few spots at the bottom of the roster that are up for grabs. Let’s breakdown five returning players who could find themselves on the outside looking in.

The Browns underwent a multitude of changes following the utter disappointment that was the 2019 season. The largest changes came at the top with the removal of general manager John Dorsey in favor of Andrew Berry. Any time there is a shakeup at the general manager level, it creates a chain reaction of consequences.

Another major change was the firing of head coach Freddie Kitchens. The decision to move on from Kitchens was less surprising than the change that was made at the general manager position. Kitchens navigated his way through the season poorly and the negative momentum he allowed to gain steam all but swept him out of the door when the season ended.

The Browns ownership, Dee and Jimmy Haslam, along with Paul D. Podesta interviewed several head coaching candidates and came to the conclusion that Kevin Stefanski was the right man for the job. With the hiring of Stefanski came sweeping changes as the majority of the coaching staff would be replaced. Only running backs coach Stump Mitchell and special teams’ coordinator Mike Priefer would remain from the previous staff.

While the new general manager and coaching staff inherited an immensely talented roster, that has not stopped them from putting their fingerprints on it. As is always the case, a few players were moved on from and new players were brought in through the draft or free agency to replace them. While most of the starters are in place, the bottom of the roster remains in a state of constant flux.

Someone will be caught without a seat when the music ends. Today we breakdown five returning players that could find themselves on the bubble.
