In just the second day of Cleveland Browns practice, key pieces are missing because of injuries.

The Cleveland Browns training camp is full steam ahead with coaches and players both talking to the media on Friday. While the NFL appears to be on track to get their season started on time, there are a few concerns fans should keep their eye on in Berea.

The first being the health of center J.C. Tretter. Head coach Kevin Stefanski would not share any details on a knee procedure Tretter underwent but turned the attention to the positives of rookie Nick Harris getting snaps before Tretter returns.

Tretter has started in every game 16 games since joining the Browns in 2017 and is the vocal leader of the offensive line. At center, not only is it important to perform blocking duties, but he is also the quarterback of the line and must communicate protections. While Harris has shown some promise, it would be a major downgrade if he was forced to start Week 1.

The second story to watch is the health of Myles Garrett. He has also missed practice time after tweaking his hamstring. At this moment Stefanski doesn’t have any major concerns, but Browns fans are all too aware of how nagging this injury can be after seeing Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward both struggle to get to form last season after dealing with hamstring strains.

Garrett was having a tremendous year in 2019 before the suspension Week 10. After getting a monster contract extension this offseason, it would not be a good sign for the return on investment. Many have Garrett picked as a strong Defensive Player of the Year candidate for the 2020 season.

With defensive tackle Andrew Billings and offensive guard Drew Forbes opting out of the season because of COVID-19, these are two position groups the Browns can’t afford to lose depth. And let’s be clear, this isn’t only depth, these are star players for the Browns. Injuries seem to stack on top of each other, so let’s keep our fingers crossed this is the last of them for training camp.
