2. Kevin Johnson stands out

The Browns made some major headlines with many of their offseason moves. Signing Austin Hooper and Jack Conklin in free agency was massive and even landing Karl Joseph made plenty of headlines. Then in the draft, they picked up Jedrick Wills and Grant Delpit which rightfully gained publicity.

However, there was another move that didn’t seem to make as much noise, which was the signing of cornerback Kevin Johnson. A former first-round pick of the Houston Texans, Johnson struggled to stay healthy with the team that drafted him but found new life with the Buffalo Bills in 2019.

He then signed a one-year deal with Cleveland and in his first practice, he made sure to make his presence felt. Johnson stood out in one-on-one drills, making what Nathan Zegura called the play of the day for defense when he picked off a pass in one-on-one drills.

It was a reminder of how sound Johnson can be when it comes to technique. He was working across from Rashard Higgins (who looks funny wearing No. 82 when he wore 81 for the first four years of his career) and read the route perfectly. Johnson jumped in front of Higgins and beat him to the ball, holding on as he went to the ground.

Cleveland enters this season with Johnson joining Denzel Ward Greedy Williams, and Terrance Mitchell in a crowded and talented backfield. And while he might not be the most well-known, he made sure to remind everyone how good he can be.
