The Cleveland Browns revamped their offensive line this offseason, but left one spot on the unit unattended to: right guard. After acquiring Wyatt Teller last season and Drew Forbes being healthy, it was not a necessity to add to the position.

However, after three of Cleveland’s guards opted-out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including Forbes, the Browns are needing to add depth at guard. Not only depth, however, as the Browns would like to add some competition with Teller.

With a lack of top veteran free agent guards, the Browns were left with few options. They did have one veteran in mind, as they planned on bringing Ronald Leary to Cleveland for a visit with the intent of signing him to a deal.

Today’s featured article discusses Leary’s visit with the Browns on Monday and how he left town without a deal.

Myles Garrett misses 1st day in pads but expected back soon; G Ron Leary leaves without a contract; Alex Van Pelt calling plays in practice – Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"Free agent guard Ron Leary visited the Browns on Saturday but left without a contract, a league source said. The Browns will continue to monitor their guard situation, and keep Leary on the short list in the event they need help."

The Browns letting Leary leave without a deal is interesting considering it seemed evident they believed they needed to add competition for the starting right guard job. By not signing Leary, the Browns must be liking what they have seen from Teller early on in camp.

Olivier Vernon believes Browns will be more disciplined, mature after getting devoured by the hype last year – Scott Petrak, BrownsZone

"“Hopefully a lot of guys gathered that information and carry it with them, and hopefully that reminds them, especially for this upcoming season, just to give more motivation into staying focused, staying disciplined and getting after it.”"

Although the Browns did have several veterans on the roster last season, their roster was mostly compiled of young talent who had not experienced massive hype in the NFL. Olivier Vernon understands the ins-and-outs of the league and knows how to handle the hype, and now the rest of the roster should be able to as well.

There is no doubt the Cleveland Browns have one of the top groups of weapons in the NFL. However, as Dan Gilinsky discusses, the Browns weapons will need to fully buy-in to the offense in order for the offense to be successful.
