3 Early observations from Cleveland Browns training camp 2020

Defenders are out to make a name for themselves
The Cleveland Browns roster is loaded with talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but two guys on defense have continued to impress through the first few days of camp. Kevin Johnson (cornerback) and Mack Wilson (linebacker) continue to jump off the film the first few days.
Johnson was a first-round pick in the 2015 draft out of Wake Forrest. After four disappointing seasons with the Houston Texans and one with the Buffalo Bills, Johnson is out to prove his worth as he is the likely nickelback starter for the Browns in 2020. Johnson has shown the ability to play tight man coverage in the first few scrimmages and has a nice interception vs. Mayfield that could have gone for six the other way in a live game. Andrew Berry brought in Johnson on a one year “prove it” deal, that looks likely to pay off in a big way this year.
Wilson who was a fifth-round pick in 2019, was forced into action last year because of injuries but was a bit of a shining star. He certainly made rookie mistakes, but he has a high motor and passion for the game which fans love to see. Unfortunately, Wilson suffered an injury on Tuesday and it could be serious as he was carted off the field.
This means players such as Sione Takitaki and rookie Jacob Phillips will be heavily relied upon going forward. Hopefully, Wilson’s passion will have rubbed off on one of them.
With most of the big-name stars on the offensive side of the ball, look for Johnson and at least one of the linebackers to have breakout years for the Browns on defense.
