5 LBs Cleveland Browns could sign to replace Mack Wilson

Entering the 2020 season, the Cleveland Browns were already very thin at linebacker. Headlined by second-year player Mack Wilson, the unit was arguably the worst in the league. Now that Mack Wilson has gone down with what seems like a significant injury, the Cleveland Browns have gotten even worse at their thinnest position.

Wilson recently hyperextended his left knee during practice and could miss some serious time with the injury. This leaves the Browns linebacker room currently at seven guys, Solomon Ajayi, Tae Davis, B.J. Goodson, Willie Harvey, Montrel Meander, Jacob Phillips, and Sione Takitaki.

This unit has some potential, but with potential comes the question marks. Only Goodson has the experience as a starting linebacker among this group, and he has only started 29 games over his four-season career so far. If the team wants to be competitive, it is going to need to address the lack of experience at linebacker.

To address this lack of experience, Andrew Berry needs to find a veteran linebacker or two to bring into the locker room to at least help these younger guys like Jacob Phillips and Sione Takitaki learn how to be an NFL linebacker. There are tips and tricks to the game that veterans pass down to each other, and those can be the difference to a linebacker filling his gap on time, or a linebacker being late to his gap and an elite runner like Lamar Jackson breaking a 20-yard run.

Starting off this list of potential linebackers to bring in is a fan favorite, Clay Matthews III.
