5 Safeties the Cleveland Browns can sign to replace Grant Delpit

This year’s training camp has been BRUTAL for the Cleveland Browns. The latest of these injuries is the Cleveland Browns’ 2020 2nd round pick, Grant Delpit.

Delpit went down during practice and had to be carted off, which is never a good sign. Naturally, the team feared the worst in this situation.

And in the end, their fears were confirmed as Mary Kay Cabot reported the rookie did suffer a torn Achilles — ending his rookie season before it even began.

Delpit is the Browns’ future at one of the two safety positions, there is no doubt about that. When a player tears their Achilles, they’re more than likely done for the season. With no proven veteran backup behind Grant Delpit to play the free safety position this season, the team will need to move on and find one quick.

The safety market is pretty thin this time of the year, but there are still two big names that the Browns could sign today, which is extremely rare this time of year. Sheldrick Redwine, the franchise’s 4th round pick from 2019 is still on the roster and showed promise last season of being able to fill the role, so they might not spend big dollars on the position. If they’re confident in his skills though, he still will need a competent backup.

With that being said, it would be a huge benefit for the team to bring in a veteran in any capacity to this defensive backs room. Let’s take a look at some of the top names available for the Cleveland Browns.
