Five cornerbacks Cleveland Browns could sign if Greedy Williams misses time
By Mitch Zoloty
Due to the latest big injury in the Cleveland Browns’ training camp, the team now has a need at cornerback, at least for a time.
Another day in camp, another big injury for the Cleveland Browns. The franchise hasn’t been able to catch a break so far this season, as the team has dealt with a variety of injuries, both big and small.
This time it is second-year cornerback Greedy Williams, who reportedly could miss significant time with a new shoulder injury. While the Cleveland Browns have not said yet how much time Williams will miss, it will likely be significant enough to consider bringing in more help to the already decimated defensive backfield.
So far in training camp, the Browns have already lost Delpit for the season. It is unknown how much time Kevin Johnson will miss with a lacerated liver. Terrance Mitchell, M.J. Stewart and Karl Joseph have also missed practices.
The current free agent market is pretty thin at defensive back, and especially cornerback. It is mostly made up of inexperienced young guys and old veterans at the back ends of their careers.
Thankfully, the Browns could get along with one of these old veterans for the period of time until Williams returns from injury. The team doesn’t need to and shouldn’t be looking for a long-term answer in free agency right now. Mainly because there isn’t one.
There are a few good short term options at cornerback, though. Here are a few of the top available cornerbacks the Cleveland Browns could consider signing this season.
