Round 5, Pick 144: JaCoby Stevens, S, LSU

Death, taxes, and the Browns selecting LSU defensive backs in the NFL Draft.

In 2019 it was Williams, and this past year it was Delpit. Here in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft, the Browns land another in the form of JaCoby Stevens. While Delpit looks to return to full force next year after rupturing his Achilles, opposite him are two veterans on one-year deals in Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo.

While there is a solid chance the former first-rounder in Joseph has the potential to hang around long term, there is also a chance the Browns could be in the market for another safety. Returning to a loaded LSU defense which featured a ton of 2020 draft picks, Stevens has a chance to shine for the Tigers this season as the SEC seems to be full steam ahead towards playing.

Listed at a massive (for a safety) 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, Stevens displays great speed and athletic ability for that size as well. A year ago, Stevens racked up 53 solo tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, three interceptions, and six passes defended. Stevens’ 2019 performance is the definition of stat sheet stuffing, and he has even more potential to take on more of the load defensively in 2020.

A fun prospect, he could certainly be on the radar of the Browns next April.
