Could the Cleveland Browns get stuck with Alvin Kamara as a rival?

There was some news late on Tuesday making the rounds in the NFL about the New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara. Amid a contract dispute between the two sides, the Saints have reportedly become open to the idea of trading Kamara.

At first, this news seems to be irrelevant to the Cleveland Browns since they don’t need a running back, but that doesn’t mean it won’t affect them. Especially if the suggestion of Cody Williams plays out.

Williams, of NFL Spin Zone, says that there’s a chance Kamara could end up in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He says they do have plenty of options there but that they could look into pairing Kamara with James Conner, who is in the final year of his rookie deal.

"“Moreover, Conner is also entering a contract year where the Steelers must make a decision. If the price would be right, perhaps Pittsburgh could bring in Kamara to platoon with Conner — which would be mighty threatening for opponents — and then make a decision about which player is the best long-term fit.” — Williams, NFL Spin Zone"

Cleveland has faced the electric Kamara only one time in his young career, which was back in 2018. That was a Week 2 contest that came down to the wire and ended in a New Orleans win by the score of 21-18.

While the Saints got the win, the Browns defense held Kamara in check for the most part. He ran for 46 yards on 13 carries — which was good for just 3.54 yards per rush. He was better receiving the ball, gaining 53 yards on six catches, but it was still a win for the defense considering how dangerous he can be.

Still, that won’t likely be the case if the Browns had to start facing him twice per season. Kamara has never run for 1,000-yards in a season but his ability to hurt teams as a receiver is nearly as deadly as his running.

In three seasons, he has 2,408 yards on the ground and 2,068 through the air. He’s also scored a total of 37 touchdowns.

Surely, Browns fans would be fine if he didn’t end up in Pittsburgh. As for other landing spots Williams suggested, he has the Jaguars, Jets, Dolphins, and Miami as suitors.
