The Cleveland Browns are working to trim their roster down to 53 players

This has been a weird offseason for the entire NFL as there was no preseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That means we didn’t get to see some of the fringe players take the field in exhibition games for the Cleveland Browns.

For the fans, this just means we didn’t get to start rooting for a back-up player to make the final roster — or get a glimpse of the offense being orchestrated by the No. 2 quarterback (which is clearly something we only ever want to see in the preseason or blowout victories).

But for the coaching staff, it could be a bigger problem. While they normally have four games to help them make their final decisions, this season is different. Instead, they have just their practices and the live scrimmage to go off of as they drop the roster from 80 to 53.

Teams have until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday to make their final cuts. Stick with us as we keep you up to date with all the moves from the Browns front office.

The biggest shock of the day so far has to be the release of Chad Thomas, a former third-round pick in 2018 — confirmed by Mary Kay Cabot.

Thomas was a favorite of former GM John Dorsey, but with the new staff, he was unable to beat out Porter Gustin.

The Browns will still be able to add players back to their practice squad, as long as they are not claimed by another club. We will update you on the squad members once they are announced.
