Cleveland Browns studs and duds from Week 2 victory over Bengals
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: Kareem Hunt, Nick Chubb
It almost feels unfair that the Browns have both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Their running back duo is the best in the NFL hands-down and they proved that in this one.
Chubb was the featured back once again, finishing with 124 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. He was an absolute workhorse that churned out yards even after being hit. And when the defense gets tired of dealing with him, the Browns can throw Kareem Hunt into the mix to cause even more issues. And that’s what happened in this game.
Kevin Stefanski relied heavily on Chubb early on but as the second quarter got rolling, he finally got Hunt involved. The No. 2 running back didn’t touch the ball until a third-and-four late in the second and he took that six yards for a first. Then, he capped off the drive with a six-yard touchdown catch.
Then in the second half, Hunt was more involved as he finished the night with 86 yards on 10 carries, including a long of 33-yards. He also ran in a touchdown, giving each back a total of two scores on the night.
What was most impressive though was the final drive of the night by Cleveland. Following a touchdown that made it 28-23, the Browns had a six-play, 75-yard drive that consisted of no passes at all. Instead, it was all runs but Chubb and Hunt, highlighted by a 26-yarder by Chubb that was followed immediately by Hunt with his 33-yard run.
Hunt then capped the drive off with a one-yard touchdown, putting the game out of reach. Clearly, this is the team’s formula for success as this two-headed monster was unbelievable in Week 2.
