Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know
Week 3 left the Cleveland Browns with a roster spot to fill as their primary return man, JoJo Natson, was lost for the season when he tore his ACL. They might have found their guy as they’re setting up a meeting with former Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers return man, Ryan Switzer.
A fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2017 out of North Carolina, Switzer only spent one season in Dallas before being traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2018 in exchange for Jihad Ward. He never played a down for the Raiders as he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers before the regular season began.
Switzer then spent the next two seasons as a receiver and return man in Pittsburgh but was waived in September of 2020 in favor of Ra-Ray McCloud. He’s been looking for work since then and could be a great fit for the Browns.
That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.
Cleveland Browns News
"“In Switzer’s three NFL seasons, one with the Cowboys and two with the Steelers, he played 41 games with one start. He returned 67 punts for 537 yards (8 average) and a touchdown, plus 63 kickoffs for 1,373 yards (21.8 average). He also caught 50 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown.”"
Switzer can do a lot of what Natson can do in the return game but he’s a much more polished receiver. He could be quite the consolation prize as a replacement.
When is it too soon to judge Baker Mayfield? — Dan Labbe, Cleveland.com
"“There’s no important position on the football field than quarterback and, more often than not, it’s a complicated decision. Not every quarterback is Patrick Mahomes. Dak Prescott has led his team to the playoffs and he and Cowboys can’t agree on an extension. Carson Wentz and Jared Goff both got theirs, but do we know any more about either of those quarterbacks than we did when they got paid?”"
Labbe looks at the whole body of work for Mayfield and raises some interesting points. Right now, the young quarterback is in a critical season but the hope is that we get this year and next with him as the starter under Kevin Stefanski before seeing what he can truly become. The key will be seeing growth from week to week. So far, we have seen exactly that.
Big Picture: 5 Storylines for Cowboys & Browns — DallasCowboys.com
"“Sunday serves as a homecoming for both Arlington native Myles Garrett and Austin product Baker Mayfield. Garrett was a star at nearby Arlington Martin that sat just 14 miles from AT&T Stadium where he earned a consensus five-star rating. He ranked as one of the top players in the country with 39 sacks his senior year.”"
