Bleacher Report thinks the Cleveland Browns should bench Andrew Sendejo

After three games as the starting safety for the Cleveland Browns, Andrew Sendejo has been the subject of a lot of criticism. The veteran defender has been on the field for a lot of plays and has had his share of struggles so far.

Fans have been vocal about their displeasure on social media and now, it seems as though they’re not alone. Members of the media are now pointing to Sendejo as a player who might need to see less playing time.

In a recent article, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report picks one player on every NFL team that needs to be demoted and for the Browns, Sendejo was his choice.

"“Sendejo has played 100 percent of Cleveland’s defensive snaps this season, but he’s also allowed eight completions on 11 targets while giving up 141 receiving yards and a touchdown and missing three tackles. Not so coincidentally, the Browns rank 22nd in pass defense and 24th in points allowed.” — Knox, Bleacher Report"

Originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Rice in 2010, Andrew Sendejo spent one season there before heading to the Minnesota Vikings. He was in Minnesota from 2011-2018 before joining the Philadelphia Eagles last season. He returned to the Vikings though once cut by the Eagles and played six more games with them.

During his stretch with Minnesota, he worked with Joe Woods, who was a defensive backs coach for the Vikings and is now the defensive coordinator for Cleveland. He also crossed paths with the head coach of the Browns, Kevin Stefanski, who coached in various capacities on the offensive side of the ball for much of Sendejo’s career in Minnesota.

So far in Cleveland, Sendejo has 19 tackles and has yet to be credited with any pass defenses or forced fumbles. He was supposed to be a veteran leader but there’s a chance he could find his job status in jeopardy once Ronnie Harrison, who was added in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, gets up to speed.

According to Knox, doing this — or even giving Sheldrick Redwine more time —‚ would be a beneficial move for the Browns.
