The numbers prove that injury risk is lower on natural turf

As President of the NFL Player’s Association, Browns center J.C. Tretter posted a letter on the NFLPA website injuries aren’t as common on natural turf. This writer is not a medical expert, but I invite those of you with a technical or medical background to use Google Scholar or other technical search engine and try something like, NFL, injury frequency, grass, synthetic turf, and see what pops up.

Report after report indicates that there are more injuries on synthetic turf. The thing that is most upsetting is that the career threatening injuries, notably the Achilles tendon injuries and other injuries involving the lower extremities, tend to be more common on turf than on grass.

So, Mr. or Ms. Agent, why would you send your client to an environment that has a significantly higher risk of getting your client injured and reducing his earning potential? You can put the numbers to it and figure out the expectation value of how much it is going to cost.

Also keep in mind, that Heinz Field in Pittsburgh is natural grass, Kentucky bluegrass to be specific. and Baltimore Ravens M&T Bank stadium uses Bermuda grass mixed with rye grass. The Cincinnait Bengals use synthetic turf, but that is because they are brainless.

If your client comes to Cleveland at least 10 games per season will be played on natural turf.  That can extend his career and quality of life.  Think about that. This is a no-brainer.  A responsible agent would stop sending their clients to teams with synthetic turf.
