Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb heads to IR
The Cleveland Browns returned to Berea with a huge road win versus the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Unfortunately, at the cost of Nick Chubb. At least for awhile.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski met with the media Monday afternoon and revealed that the team will be placing Chubb on the injury reserve.
According to Stefanski, Chubb’s injury will not require surgery and they do expect him back this year, but placing a player on the IR will sideline them for at least three games. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns will be without Chubb for about six weeks, which includes the bye week.
He will be ready to return to the field at some point in November.
The Browns have been able to run the ball at a historic rate throughout four games, including after losing Chubb in the first quarter of the win over Dallas. D’Ernest Johnson was surprisingly Cleveland’s leading rusher with 95 yards. Kareem Hunt, who was limited with a groin injury, still rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
"“I think Stump (Mitchell) does a great job with that running back room,” Stefanski said via Andrew Gribble of the team’s official website. “D’Ernest was standing at the ready.”"
Without Chubb for six weeks, the Browns will likely look to Hunt to carry the load in the running game as he continues to regain health.
“That dude’s a warrior,” Stefanski said of Hunt playing through injury.
Certainly, the Browns will hope for that warrior-type of play to continue from their running backs over the next few weeks as they await for Chubb to regain health.
