How Baker Mayfield ranks among AFC North quarterbacks
By Mitch Zoloty
Overall Scores
To draw up the overall scores here, I found out what the average rank among the four quarterbacks each one was over all of the statistics. So far, when looking at these statistics and metrics, Baker Mayfield has been the worst quarterback in the AFC North.
"Lamar Jackson (1.5 average ranking) Ben Roethlisberger (2.17 average ranking) Joe Burrow (2.83 average ranking) Baker Mayfield (3.33 average ranking)"
This isn’t an article to show how that Baker has been playing poorly. What this shows is how well the entire AFC North has been performing, especially at the quarterback position. All four of these guys look like playoff-caliber quarterbacks. When it comes to the quarterback position, the AFC North might be the best in the entire NFL this season, only rivaled by the NFC West. The NFC South certainly has the quarterbacks with the best overall careers so far, but their three headliners have been struggling this season.
Winning the AFC North is going to be an extremely hard goal for any team to accomplish, let alone the Cleveland Browns this season. If they plan to try to take the division title, Baker is going to need to step his game up further. While his performance has improved from last season, he will need to further make improvements in his game and take more control over this offense.
The good news is that it really seems like Mayfield is ready for a bigger role in the offense, and he will succeed if/when it is given to him. The next quarter of the season the Cleveland Browns will have to take on the Indianapolis Colts, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Oakland Raiders. These teams are a combined 9-5-1, with the Colts sitting at 3-1 and the Steelers 3-0.
Baker will likely have to take a bigger role in these games, especially with Nick Chubb missing all of them. While he has been great in his role during the first quarter of the season, the next quarter of the season will be the most valuable in determining just how much he has improved, and if the Browns truly are contenders in the AFC North.
