Three reasons the Cleveland Browns will beat the Colts
Number 1: Kareem Hunt and Co.
When Nick Chubb went down on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, many were worried it could be a serious injury that could jeopardize both he and the team down the road.
Enter Kareem Hunt, the man who the Browns paid $13 million on a two-year extension this past offseason to keep him paired with Chubb to form the most dynamic running back duo in the NFL. While Hunt was nursing a minor injury on Sunday as well, limiting his playtime, D’Ernest Johnson saw a heavy dose of action, getting 95 yards on 13 carries.
The scary thing about the Cleveland Browns offense is their ability to run on just about anyone right now, no matter who lines up in their backfield. A lot of that success goes to their dominant offensive line and their ability to open holes and hold their blocks long enough to allow the running lanes to open up.
Another big part of the running success, however, is the scheme put together by Kevin Stefanski and his offensive staff. Whether it be a zone-blocking scheme, pulling guards, or straight man-on-man blocking, everything Stefanski has installed has worked amazingly well for the Browns offensive line, who have helped power Cleveland to 818 rushing yards so far, with an average yards per carry average of 5.9, both tops in the league.
Sure, the Colts defense currently ranks number one in the league in total defense (as far as teams that have played four games), and are only allowing 77 yards rushing per game. But look for Kareem Hunt, D’Ernest Johnson, and Dontrell Hilliard (yes, Dontrell Hilliard) to run behind the best offensive line in football and get to 4-1.
They may not get over 300 yards as they did in Week 4 against the porous Cowboys defense, but a solid showing will still be enough to get the win.
