3 Keys to a Cleveland Browns win vs. Indianapolis Colts
By Clay Goodwin
3. Get defensive personnel healthy
Cleveland has struggled on defense as previously mentioned, and that is largely to do with key players being out with injuries. Rookie safety Grant Delpit was supposed to be a huge focal point for the Browns and he was lost for the year with an Achilles injury.
Their best linebacker Mack Wilson was lost for two games and is still not 100 percent due to a knee injury. Other key injuries include Kevin Johnson (CB), Greedy Williams (CB), Jacob Phillips (LB), Olivier Vernon (DE), Adrian Clayborn (DE), among others. It’s an extremely tough task for the defense to succeed when such a large number of their best players are injured.
Hopefully, for this week the Browns can get some of their players back on the field at full speed. Wilson and Phillips have played limited snaps the last two games as they are easing back into the rotation. Williams has not played a snap yet but is practicing this week while Kevin Johnson should be back to full health shortly. Having these four players in the lineup while playing at100 percent will exponentially improve the defense, particularly in the passing game.
If the Browns can get the defense healthy, the team should continue to get better and win some games. Look for the defense to have their best game of the year against the Colts mediocre offense with the help of some healthy players coming back.
