The Cleveland Browns biggest problem has become its greatest strength

The Cleveland Browns offense was supposed to explode onto the scene in 2019. What we saw was more of an implode.

What we have seen in 2020 has been completely different. The offensive line that hampered the offense in 2019 is a thing of the past. Bill Callahan and some key additions have taken this line all the way to one of the top lines in the NFL.

Callahan could be argued as the biggest addition to the Browns this past offseason. He has been in the NFL for 22 years, and everywhere he goes, great offensive line play follows. This is especially true when it comes to the running game. Over those 22 years, Callahan has had a top ten rushing attack nine times. He has had 12 different offensive linemen get to 29 Pro Bowls in his time in the NFL.

"“I’ve always thought the world of him as a coach. His reputation precedes him,” Kevin Stefanski said via Andrew Gribble of Clevelandbrowns.com. “He coaches his guys hard, he’s fair, he’s a disciplinarian, he’s a teacher. I think he’s able to do all those things and he’s a man of high, high integrity.”"

Currently, he has helped this Cleveland unit to the number one rushing offense in the NFL while stabilizing the pass blocking. Callahan has coached up young rookie Jedrick Wills who was asked to move from right tackle at Alabama to the left side in the NFL and has been steady through four weeks. Callahan has also married Kevin Stefanski’s zone scheme with some gap schemes to help mix up the run game blocking to help keep defenses on their toes.

When Callahan was hired, coach Stefanski said that one of the veteran coach’s greatest attributes was his ability to “match the scheme to his personnel.” That quality has been on full display through the first four weeks of this NFL season.

How have the new coaches, Bill Callahan especially, helped each of the Browns offensive linemen in 2020?
