Dud: Andrew Sendejo, Safety

Let’s get this out of the way right now… Andrew Sendejo gives you a lot of effort but has just been awful this season. If there were a stat for blown coverages, I assure you he would be number one in the league through five weeks. Twice on third down vs. the Colts, Sendejo was out of position over the middle and gave up huge plays.

Part of this isn’t Sendejo’s fault, as he continues to see playing time because of so many injuries to Brown’s safeties. Ronnie Harrison and Karl Joseph look to be the top two safeties now, but a hamstring injury this week in practice kept Joseph off the field on Sunday.

Sendejo can be a big hitter, but often he just ends up crushing his own player. Multiple times this year Denzel Ward has been on the wrong end of a huge Sendejo hit that left fans gasping with Ward’s injury history.

Once Joseph and Harrison are healthy look for Sendejo to be in a much more limited role with the defense, but there is a possibility of seeing him in the dime package. Sendejo feels like a guy who could be a good run stopper near the line of scrimmage but cannot be asked to cover a tight end (let alone a wide receiver) on third down.

With Sheldrick Redwine forced into action on Sunday with Harrison going down in the third quarter, fans were quickly questioning defensive coordinator Joe Woods as Redwine quickly had an interception. The film room will be interesting on Monday, but even with a win don’t look for it to be a good day for Sendejo.
