Stud: The front five

Some may be shocked that the Browns offensive line earns the spot as No. 1 stud in their week five victory. They were only able to total 124 rushing yards (which isn’t bad), but the gashing runs weren’t there like they have been in the past three wins.

Two things to remember here. One, Wyatt Teller left the game very early. The right guard for the Browns has been the heart and soul of the run game as he opens massive holes pulling around the left side of the offensive line. Teller suffered a calf injury, and originally looked to return, but never did in the win.

Two, this was a fantastic defensive line. Even with all-pro linebacker Darius Leonard out for the Colts on Sunday, this is a strong defensive front, and the Colts are great at stopping the run. While there weren’t a ton of 20 plus yard runs, the Browns held there own and were often getting four to five yards on first down.

Not only was the run blocking solid, pass protection was fantastic. I remember Mayfield being pressured twice, and only being sacked one of those times. Backup lineman Chris Hubbard stepped into the right guard spot and didn’t really miss a beat. While he didn’t perform at Tellers All-Pro level, for likely not practicing a snap at the position all week, he was fantastic.

Let’s hope the injury to Teller isn’t that serious and the Browns just didn’t want to push it with Hubbard able to fill the void. The Browns will need Teller healthy next week as the Steelers defense maybe even a notch better than the Colts. It must be noted, Jedrick Wills did look like a rookie on a few plays, but still had a tremendous showing with a lot of pass protection plays.

The offensive line has been a bright spot all year, and once again earned the spot as the No. 1 stud of the week. Soak this up Browns fans, we have been waiting…for forever for most of us under the age of 35. On to Pittsburgh.
