Greedy Williams was moved to the IR by the Cleveland Browns on Monday

Cleveland Browns second year cornerback Greedy Williams has yet to see the field this season as he has battled injury. He’ll have to wait even longer now, as the team moved him to the IR on Monday morning.

When Williams was drafted, he was expected to be paired with Denzel Ward and form a dominant pairing in the defensive backfield. However, he battled injuries most of the 2019 season.

With availability being the best ability for any football player, it brings forth the question of whether the Cleveland Browns should consider moving on from the cornerback.

Sure, Greedy played in 12 games as a rookie, totaling 47 tackles and two pass deflections. But this season, the duo of Ward and Terrance Mitchell on the outside of the defense has been a great pairing. Mitchell already has four pass deflections this season, as well as 22 tackles and one forced fumble. While Mitchell has missed games in the past due to injury, his availability this season has proved helpful and may help the Browns be able to move on from the never-available Greedy Williams.

It may be too soon to give up on someone like Greedy Williams. Sure, his injury issues are a concern. But having a talent like him on a rookie contract is something you don’t usually give up on so early.

But if the injuries continue to pile up, and Greedy Williams continues to remain out for the Browns this season and in the future, it may be time to cut him and find a long term replacement to pair opposite of Denzel Ward.
