Andrew Berry gets the fanservice going early and adds his token Ohio State Buckeye.

In reality, Shaun Wade is an excellent prospect who would provide a great deal of versatility in the secondary for the Browns. Listed at 6-1 and 195 pounds, Wade has played in the slot, on the outside, in the box, and has rotated up to deep safety for the Buckeyes. He can do it all and does it well. He has an incredible feel for the game for a player with only two seasons of experience. Ohio State defensive backs are usually a pretty safe bet, and Wade is just the next man up for DBU.

With Kevin Johnson on a one-year deal, the Browns do not have a long-term solution at slot corner. In fact, both starting safeties (Andrew Sendejo and Karl Joseph) are also playing on one-year contracts. Terrance Mitchell will also be a free agent after the season. There will be a ton of turnover in the secondary, so the Browns are going to need someone who can fill a variety of roles. Wade has the talent and instincts to become a Pro Bowler wherever he plays.

If Williams can return from his shoulder injury and show the talent that made him a potential top-five pick heading into the 2018 college football season, then Wade can stay inside on most plays. If Williams doesn’t end up panning out, Wade should easily be able to slide outside. That’s where he’ll be playing this season for Ohio State, and if he can prove he’s capable of high-level play on the outside, then his draft stock will increase significantly.

Wade will have plenty of competition for the title of CB1 in this class, most notably in Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II and Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley, but no matter his final ranking, the Browns should be running to the podium if he’s available when they pick, whenever that ends up being.
