EDGE. Pittsburgh. 2. player. 866. Pick Analysis. Scouting Report. PatrickJones II

Olivier Vernon’s contract is up after this season, and while Porter Gustin and Adrian Clayborn are good depth pieces, the Browns do need a long-term complement to Myles Garrett on the edge. That’s where Patrick  Jones comes in. The 6-5, 260-pounder racked up 62 pressures last season, displaying impressive athleticism.

He needs to continue adding technique to his game, as do nearly all rookie rushers, but he has the potential to be an excellent player at the next level. The Browns do have Curtis Weaver coming back next season, so that’s like adding an extra draft pick. Injecting Weaver and Jones into the EDGE rotation would be quite the boost to Cleveland’s pass-rushing unit.

LB. Missouri. NickBolton. 3. 822. Scouting Report. player. Pick Analysis

Nick Bolton will likely be a first-round pick when everything is said and done, but in this simulation, he falls to the third, where the Browns are more than happy to scoop him. up. Bolton is a fundamentally sound thumper who reads his keys extremely well, leading to 54 of his 82 solo tackles in 2019 becoming defensive stops.

He earned a 90.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus last season, and while Bolton may not have the range and athletic ability to function as a pseudo-slot corner, he is more than capable of holding his own in zone coverage over the middle of the field, which is all he’d really need to do with six defensive backs on the field. If the Browns aren’t going to have a shot at Penn State’s Micah Parsons, Bolton would be an excellent consolation prize, even in the first round.

DT. Washington. 818. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. LeviOnwuzurike. 3

If NFL teams drafted purely based on physical skillsets, Levi Onwuzurike would be a top-20 pick. He’s ridiculously quick and explosive, giving him an incredibly high ceiling as a pass rusher. Consistency and technique are issues for him right now, but he’s still a solid player. If he can unlock the full potential of his athleticism, we’re talking about a future All-Pro.

Larry Ogunjobi is a free agent after the season and Sheldon Richardson is due $13M in 2021. The front office added Jordan Elliott and Andrew Billings (who opted out) in the offseason, so they clearly value a strong interior rotation. Onwuzurike would provide a ceiling that no one else in that room can match.
