Cleveland Browns Wee 5 opponent Colts shut down facility from COVID-19
The Cleveland Browns got their biggest win of the season last Sunday over an Indianapolis Colt’s team that had one of the best defenses in the league.
Now, just five days later the Colts have completely shut down their facilities after several players have tested positive for COVID-19.
At this moment the Browns have not announced any positive cases from their facility, but they did send an ill Odell Beckham home Thursday for precautionary reasons. With the positive tests not happening until Friday in Indianapolis, there is a chance that the breakout happened after being in Cleveland. However, it appears a team breakout is a reoccurring theme each week and it seems more and more likely the NFL will have to put a hold on the 2020 season.
If the Browns were to have positive tests in the next day or two, it would be next to impossible for their game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday to be played. Cleveland would have to lock down the facility and additional positive tests could occur over the next seven days if the outbreak is anything like the Tennessee Titans experience.
It pains me to think about the NFL season being put on hold, especially with the Browns finally looking like a playoff team. But if you look at the facts currently, it is looking more and more like a hold on this season could come any moment. The Titans, Colts, and University of Florida situation feel like it’s going to continue to occur which is nothing but disappointing.
Remember, none of these guys want to catch COVID-19, and a bubble would be extremely tough with so many teams and players/coaches on each roster. The NFL is doing absolutely everything in their power to keep this season going.
Let’s hope the league can continue to power forward but understand there is a possibility of a delay until the spring.
