What if the Cleveland Browns move on from Baker Mayfield?

There is no nice way to say it: Baker Mayfield is struggling, and the Cleveland Browns are suffering because of it.

Now six weeks into a new season under a new regime, the training wheels are still not off of Mayfield, which should be alarming to the coaching staff manned by Kevin Stefanski and the front office. While there is still plenty of football left to play, and plenty of time for Mayfield to prove he has progressed under center, he is not playing like a quarterback worthy of getting another year to prove himself.

Currently slated to pick around the 20th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Browns will be out of the race for the likes of Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, or North Dakota State’s Trey Lance. Unless a name such as Alabama’s Mac Jones or BYU’s Zach Wilson are still on the board at this range in the draft, the Browns will be left with slim options to pick from at quarterback under center in 2021.

These options are the following: stick with Baker Mayfield through 2021 and hope he develops, which would more than likely continue to handicap the offense, or go out and get a seasoned veteran to take over if the Browns are truly in win now mode. This is the avenue we will explore here: which quarterbacks are options for the Browns to pursue this offseason should they decide they have seen enough of Mayfield and opt to pull the plug on the former first overall pick in the draft?
