Could the Cleveland Browns actually make a run at Matt Ryan?

After Baker Mayfield‘s disastrous performance for the Cleveland Browns against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, the NFL world has been abuzz with potential options should the Browns decide to move on from their third-year signal-caller. A bit knee-jerk, yes.

But given Mayfield’s track record in the NFL, and the fact that the team has just 10 more games before they must decide on his fifth-year option, replacing Mayfield is within the realm of possibility. And if it doesn’t happen with a rookie, perhaps it will be an established veteran instead.

There are plenty of proven QBs who may be on the move in the next couple of years, and one of those is Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons. His team is 1-5 thus far in 2020, and just fired its head coach. A rebuild seems inevitable for that organization, and step one would be to move on from their franchise QB.

Ryan may no longer be playing at his 2016 MVP level, but he’s still a good starter, even at the age of 35. There are obvious hurdles to getting him to Cleveland, but it is possible. Ryan may not be the best potential option over the next few years (that would be Aaron Rodgers or Dak Prescott), but he may be one of the more realistic ones.

He’s got three more years remaining on his contract, and it’s highly unlikely he plays three more seasons in Atlanta. Could Ryan pull a Tom Brady and join a younger team with a plethora of offensive talent?
