A 7-round Cleveland Browns 2021 NFL Mock Draft heading into Week 7

As Cleveland Browns fans know all too well, it’s never too early for a Browns mock draft. The team is 4-2 with a great shot at the playoffs, but it’s still fun to look ahead and see how Cleveland can improve. This week we’ll be using Pro Football Network’s simulator for this mock, which currently has Cleveland picking 22nd overall. That seems about right, considering the Browns have yet to prove they can be competitive against the NFL’s best.

Last week’s mock was focused on improving the defense, and while that will still be the overarching goal this time, Baker Mayfield‘s less-than-stellar performance thus far has thrown a wrench in the plan. He has 10 games to prove the’s worth exercising the fifth-year option on, which would pay him over $35 million for the 2022 campaign.

He’s not worth anything close to that amount right now, and unfortunately, the team needs to begin exploring alternative options. That may not mean pulling a Kansas City Chiefs and trading up for a quarterback, but adding another potential future starter has to be strongly considered.

There’s also the possibility that one of Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. is not in Cleveland next season. Both are on pricey contracts with outs after this season. The more likely scenario is a restructure with Landry, but that’s a topic for another day. Even if both are retained, adding more receiver talent is a must.

Let’s see how this week’s mock shaped up.
