Cleveland Browns: 3 trade targets on New York Jets amid fire sale
By Cory Kinnan
What could the Jets have to offer the Cleveland Browns?
The Cleveland Browns enter the trade deadline period in a much different position than years past. With a 4-2 record heading into Week 7, the Browns could look to be buyers in order to improve their roster rather than sellers as they have been previously. There are, however, other teams looking to sell, and the Browns have already taken advantage of this in the past after trading for safety Ronnie Harrison from the rebuilding Jaguars.
Another team who may be looking to sell after a winless start and already shipping out star safety Jamal Adams is the New York Jets. In fact, their fire sale may already be underway as they have already traded defensive tackle Steve McClendon to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and end Jordan Willis to the San Francisco 49ers.
Should the firesale continue for the Jets, are there any assets that the Browns could covet?
Honorable Mention: QB Sam Darnold
This is a longshot as Jets’ quarterback Sam Darnold has been just as inefficient throughout his career as Baker Mayfield has been. However, he is still on his rookie contract, and is Stefanski and company do not think Mayfield is capable of running the offense in Cleveland, then they take the risk of giving Darnold the look.
There is little chance Darnold would even cost a first round pick in a trade, and with all bonuses still on the New York payroll, there would be little risk in giving Darnold a look for the Browns. Again, this is not an advocation, but if the Browns think they could fix Darnold’s confidence, then there could be a sky-high reward on the other end of the tunnel for Andrew Berry and his team.
