Cleveland Browns: 3 trade targets in the event of a Minnesota Vikings fire sale
By Sam Penix
Three Vikings the Cleveland Browns could target before the trade deadline
The Cleveland Browns will face an even tougher Baltimore Ravens team later in the season, as the division rivals pulled off a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, sending third and fifth-round picks in exchange for EDGE Yannick Ngakoue. It’s a bit of surprise that Minnesota moved on from the pass-rusher, as they had just traded second and fifth-round picks for him this offseason. But with Ngakoue set to become a free agent after the season, and with the Vikings sitting at 1-5, it makes a lot of sense.
If the team feels its championship window has closed (which may be a safe bet), other players could be available, and the Browns would do well to at least inquire about them.
Honorable mention: S Anthony Harris
Anthony Harris has been perhaps the NFL’s best safety over the past two seasons. Over that period, he allowed zero touchdowns in coverage and picked off 10 passes. He hasn’t been quite as good this year, but the same can be said for the entire Minnesota defense.
Harris was linked to the Browns in the offseason, but ended up remaining with the Vikings as their franchise player. He just turned 29 and will be a free agent after the campaign, so the Browns would be sending capital for the right to make him one of, if not the highest-paid safeties in the NFL. This makes it unlikely a deal will happen, but if Cleveland really wanted to go all-in for a few seasons, Harris would certainly help.
