Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett named AFC Defensive Player of the Month
Cleveland Browns Myles Garrett named AFC Defensive Player of the Month
Myles Garrett is having an amazing start to the year, and it’s getting recognition around the league.
On Thursday morning, the NFL named the Cleveland Browns edge rusher as the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October.
Garrett has registered six sacks in four October games, as well as forcing two fumbles. He’s also been a complete menace getting after the quarterback, as he has eight quarterback hits and even more pressures that have forced opposing quarterbacks to throw the ball before they want to.
Garrett started the season slow, but after not recording much of an impact in the Week 1 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, has been on a really impressive streak. After recording a sack in his sixth straight game Sunday, he broke the Browns record for most consecutive games with a sack.
Garrett is currently on a historic pace with his sack numbers, too. If he were to stay on his current pace, where he has nine sacks in the last six games, he would finish the season with 24 sacks, breaking the single season sack record of 22.5 held by Michael Strahan. While it will be hard to keep up with this amazing pace he is currently on, if there is one player in the league that can do it, it’s Myles Garrett.
Garrett leads the entire NFL with nine sacks, just one ahead of Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald. You’d have to imagine at this point, however, that if he keeps up this impressive performance on a weekly basis, he’ll have to be the heavy favorite for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
While the goals in Cleveland are so much higher than that, it would be pretty sweet to bring home that hardware as well.
