The Cleveland Browns only scored six points in Sunday’s loss

There is no going around the fact that the Cleveland Browns offense looked bad in their first game without Odell Beckham, Jr. There are so many different reasons for why they couldn’t score against Las Vegas but it wasn’t because of the quarterback this time.

Baker Mayfield didn’t have great numbers, 12 for 25 for 122 yards no touchdowns and no interceptions. He was accurate with the ball on a day when the wind reached up to 40 miles per hour. The problem was with his receivers catching the passes he was throwing.

The Browns had dropped passes all over the field and from almost every wideout and tight end. The offense had no explosion without Beckham and they have to find a way make big plays without him.

Hopefully Wyatt Teller will return soon from a calf injury because the running game hasn’t been as good without him leading the way. Cleveland is also anticipating the return of star running back Nick Chubb who is their most explosive player even if Beckham is on the field. Cleveland has a bye this week so that should go a long way to getting those two key players back on the field.

There is a thought the Browns should pursue a trade for a good wide receiver before the trade deadline this week but they have more than enough threats.

Jarvis Landry is the clear leader and he had a few drops on Sunday but will be better. Austin Hooper is capable of doing more although he’s been dealing with an injury. Harrison Bryant and David Njoku have both played well and need to split out wide more.

Rashard Higgins, KhaDarel Hodge and Donovan People-Jones have all showed that they can make plays for this team but they have to be more consistent. They will all be getting more reps now and that should help them improve.

Getting the two-headed monster of Chubb and Hunt back together will go a long way to helping this offense get back on track and get these receivers some easy looks through play-action.

Next. Mayfield angry right now. dark

Don’t hold your breathe on Cleveland trading for anybody on offense before the deadline. If they are going to give up assets they have much bigger needs on defense.
