The Cleveland Browns have been quiet, and that is okay

Relax. Take a deep breathe and relax. Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry has been quiet so far up to this point, with the trade deadline being hours away. Before anyone jumps the gun and explodes, again, just relax.

Without a doubt, the Browns can absolutely afford to let go of 5th and 6th round picks for some of the talent that has been moving around for that price. For example, Kwon Alexander for a 5th was very do-able for the Browns. Desmond King being moved for a 6th round pick would have been a good one for the browns. Other than that, why are we upset about not being very active?

If the Browns happen to make a big trade in the remaining time before the deadline, they will have my full support. That said, why trade away a 2nd or 3rd round pick for a potential 8-game rental, or somebody you may have trouble re-signing once this season ends?

Call me crazy, but the Browns should get into the playoffs even if they make zero moves once the deadline passes. The back-half of the Browns schedule includes the Texans, Eagles, Jaguars, Titans, Ravens, Giants, Jets and Steelers. It is very possible that the Browns win five out of those eight, which would put them at 10-6. Realistically, I don’t see them finishing worse than 9-7 and better than 11-5.

This Browns team is still good. Could they use an insane amount of help on defense? Absolutely. Still, unloading high picks when Super Bowl contention seems like a reach just might not be the best thing right now.

Again, if the Browns feel it is necessary to unload and make a blockbuster trade before the deadline, shoot for the stars. This years Browns team is a playoff team, a big reason why not making any trades in a year when competing for a Super Bowl is not likely is normal. Make the playoffs first, where anything can happen. If this still young Browns team gets in, which they should do to their schedule, and they get amped up and the defense wakes up, who knows what could happen in a 60-minute battle.

dark. Next. 3 Browns who played well despite loss

It is okay to be frustrated and wonder why they aren’t spending a 5th or 6th, but to be frustrated over not spending higher picks or players on potential big-time rentals doesn’t make much sense. Trust Andrew Berry, the Browns future looks promising.
