Cleveland Browns production share through 8 games has clear leader
Kareem Hunt is leading the Cleveland Browns skill players
The Cleveland Browns are sitting at 5-3 at the bye and while they have some things to clean up, there’s plenty to be excited about. This week will be all about them fine-tuning things as they look to make a push for a playoff spot.
With that being said, it’s important to see who is playing and who is producing when evaluating the team at the bye week. There are three main things that matter when it comes to seeing who is getting playing time and who is making the most of it on the field.
These three categories are snaps played, yards gained, and points on the board. One player who is doing all of these things is Browns running back Kareem Hunt.
Snap share is the percent of offensive snaps a given player has been on the field so far this season. Yard share is the number of yards from scrimmage that a given player has gained in comparison to the total yards from scrimmage of the team. Score share is the number of touchdowns scored out of the total scored by the Browns this season. Finally, the production share is a number that takes the three former stats into account.
According to the numbers, Kareem Hunt is the most productive skill player in the Browns offense. He has stepped up into a new role recently with Nick Chubb going on IR after his injury in Week 4 against Dallas. It will be interesting to see what head coach Kevin Stefanski decides to do once Chubb is able to return to action.
Another thing of note is that three of the six most productive players have been struggling with injuries. This has reared its ugly head most recently last week against Las Vegas where the offense was only able to score 6 points.
One player the Browns will continue to greatly miss is Odell Beckham Jr. He was the second most productive player in the first half of the season, even though he missed a game. This was apparent in the previous game as the offense, largely, seemed to be spinning tires whenever they got on the field. They especially struggled through the air.
A big piece that is missing from this chart is that the Browns should be getting Nick Chubb and Austin Hooper back, hopefully after the bye week. Their production share should go up as they continue to get rolling after their injuries.
All in all, the Browns are going to need more production than we saw last week vs. Las Vegas if they want hopes of making the playoffs. The hope is that whether through big players coming back from injury or players taking the next step in the second half of the season, the Browns will receive that help they need to continue their winning ways.
This evaluation of the current state of Cleveland’s skill players is important to know heading into the second half of the season because these players will be pivotal as the Browns strive to make the playoffs.
