5. player. 811. Scouting Report. Michigan. AmbryThomas. CB. Pick Analysis

Yet another repeat appearance, Ambry Thomas may not be anything special from a size or athleticism standpoint, but he’s just a solid player. The Browns cornerback room will likely look very different in 2021, and depth is always needed in the secondary. Thomas’s consistency would give him a good chance to make the roster, which would be far from a guarantee for a fifth-round pick on a playoff-caliber roster.

EDGE. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Duke. ChrisRumph II. 6. 825

EDGE depth is very important, the Cleveland front office knows this. They signed Adrian Clayborn to a two-year contract, and claimed Curtis Weaver off waivers before placing him on injured reserve, a move intended to add competition to the room in 2021. If Chris Rumph is on the board this late, it would be a travesty not to take him.

He may be a slight 6-4 235 pounds, but there’s no arguing how productive of a rusher he’s been. He won nearly one-third of all his reps in 2019 according to PFF, which is an absurd number.

Rumph would compete with Weaver and Porter Gustin for the final two EDGE spots on the roster, and given how good of a college player Rumph has been, there’s a pretty good chance he’d stick in Cleveland.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Penn State. player. 806. WR. JahanDotson. 7

Is this a knee-jerk pick based on Jahan Dotson’s dominant performance against Ohio State last week? Absolutely not.

In all seriousness, Dotson had a great chance to make himself a lot of money in 2020, and he’s off to about as good a start as one could hope for. After a solid four-catch/94-yard/1-touchdown performance against Indiana, Dotson dominated Shaun Wade, one of the best corners in college football, to the tune of eight grabs for 133 yards and three scores, including some Odell Beckham Jr.-esque displays of athleticism. Whether it’s in the slot or outside, Dotson would be a very nice addition to the Browns WR corps.

With this class, the Browns defense won’t be dominant, but it should be much closer to the middle of the pack as opposed to the bottom of the league, as it is now. Cleveland adds three instant starters and at least two more that should play significant roles, in addition to solid depth on both sides of the ball.
