Mock draft has Cleveland Browns landing a linebacker early

It’s not hard to guess where draft pundits think the Cleveland Browns should go with their early draft picks in 2021. With their incredible struggles at linebacker this season, many expect general manager Andrew Berry to look for a player at this spot next spring.

And that’s exactly what happened in a three-round mock draft from one of our own. Our friend Cory Kinnan offered up his latest three-round mock draft over on With the First Pick, and he had the Browns not only going after a linebacker but generally focusing on their defense with their first four picks— which isn’t exactly shocking.

With Cleveland on the clock at pick No. 18, Kinnan has them taking Notre Dame linebacker/safety Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

"“Owusu-Koramoah is explosive in space, plays with a high level of intellect, and possesses innate instincts in coverage as well. Viewed as more of a chess piece than a linebacker, the Browns’ front office may bend their rules a little based off of the failures at both the second and third level of their defense this year. Is the 18th pick a bit steep for Owusu-Koramoah? Maybe, but the Browns have the ability to plug a couple different holes with one pick here.” — Kinnan, With the First Pick"

Owusu-Koramoah might remind Browns fans of Jabrill Peppers, another first-round pick who was a hybrid between linebacker and safety. Of course, Peppers was more of a safety whereas Owusu-Koramoah could excel in a linebacker role, especially in Joe Woods defense.

In the second round, he had the Browns taking Clemson cornerback Derion Kendrick at No. 50. Once deemed a position of strength, the Cleveland cornerbacks have lost some of their shine, and Kendrick could challenge Greedy Williams for the starting job opposite Denzel Ward.

From there, he addressed the interior of the line with Washington defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike at No. 82. Cleveland could lose Larry Ogunjobi in 2021 and it wouldn’t be a shock to see Sheldon Richardson become a cap casualty. That makes Onwuzurike an intriguing pick here.

Offense was finally addressed with their second pick in the third round as he went for Clemson wide receiver Amari Rodgers at No. 95 (via New Orleans).

It’s an interesting mock for the Browns as it addresses several needs while still getting solid value at each spot.
