These Cleveland Browns players need more snaps

Week 9 was the Cleveland Browns bye week and it came at a perfect time. Not only was it the halfway point of the season, but it allowed a few players to get healthy. On top of that, it kept them from losing Baker Mayfield for a week after he was placed on the COVID Reserve List during the bye following contact with a staffer who had the virus.

But most importantly, it gave the coaching staff some time to look over the film and make some adjustments. Kevin Stefanski and his crew are new to Cleveland and without a preseason or offseason activity, they were behind the eight-ball to start the 2020 campaign.

The bye afforded them some much-needed time for reflection and assessment of their roster and hopefully, some tweaks will be coming. Ideally, those tweaks will include getting more snaps for some players, with the following three being the ones who deserve this the most.

3. Jordan Elliott, Defensive Tackle

A third-round draft pick out of Missouri, Joran Elliott has just eight tackles on the season as he hasn’t been on the field a whole lot. He did get several snaps in Week 8 and made his presence felt as he recorded four tackles, doubling his total for the season while proving he can get the job done when he is given a shot.

With Larry Ogunjobi having a down season, it would make sense to try and get Elliott on the field more. This isn’t to say they should outright bench Ogunjobi but instead, they need to find more of a rotation that allows Elliott to get some of the snaps that Ogubjobi and fellow defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson are taking.

It could even help them by keeping them fresh throughout the games. In addition to helping now, it would be a smart move in terms of the future as it seems unlikely that Cleveland retains Ogunjobi in 2021, so getting Elliott ready makes a lot of sense.
