Stud: Myles Garrett

On back-to-back plays of the Houston opening drive, Myles Garrett stood out. He welcomed a former player back to Cleveland as he tackled Duke Johnson for a one-yard loss which set up a 3rd-and-3. He then forced a punt as he got into the backfield and recorded a sack on Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson —he got there just a split-second before defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, who recorded a half-sack later himself.

That play was also significant as it meant that Garrett was the first player in the NFL to reach 10 sacks this season, giving him double-digits for the third season in a row.

On the Texans’ next drive, Garrett again stood out as he got the ball back for Cleveland. Driving deep into Browns territory, Houston decided to go for it on 4th-and-goal from the two-yard line. They spread the offense out and tried to run it up the middle with Watson but Garrett was there again, to tackle him for a two-yard loss, turning it over on downs.

Garrett finished the game with six tackles and the sack as he continues to prove he should be in the mix for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Many will think he deserves that for the way he harrases quarterbacks, but he does so much more than this.

That was on display as he set the edge in the run game and was even able to get turned around on a screen play to Duke Johnson at one point, stopping the play for a short gain. Garrett is the best player on the Cleveland defense and he reminded us of that on Sunday.
