A former Cleveland Browns QB has a new job at South Carolina

Back in 2014, the Cleveland Browns picked up a little-known undrafted quarterback by the name of Connor Shaw. The undrafted free agent from South Carolina wasn’t expected to do much in the NFL due to his limited athletic ability and arm strength, but his smarts helped him win his coaches over.

Shaw spent just two seasons with the Browns and during that time, the 2014 Capital One Bowl MVP was able to start one game for Cleveland. He was 14-of-28 for 177 yards with a pick in his only action but was easy to root for.

A class act, Shaw was lost to a thumb injury the next season and then couldn’t catch on with the Bears in 2016 as he again was hurt — this time suffering a hamstring injury in a preseason game against the Browns.

Once his career was over, Shaw got into coaching at the collegiate level. He’s done enough now to earn a pretty solid gig as he was named the interim quarterback’s coach at his alma mater.

South Carolina recently released head coach Will Muschamp who was succeeded by Mike Bobo, who was the offensive coordinator and QB coach. Shaw was serving as director of player development before being moved to the new job. Before his time in Columbia, Shaw was the tight ends coach at Furman in 2018.

For Gamecock fans, it’s a bit of nostalgia as Shaw was a solid player for them from 2010-2013. He completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 6,074 yards with a 56-ot-16 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Browns don't have a playoff spot yet, but will. dark. Next

As a senior, he was fantastic with 2,447 yards and 24 touchdowns against just one pick as he led them to a 34-24 win over Wisconsin.
