Cleveland Browns: Denzel Ward having MRI on calf
By Randy Gurzi
Denzel Ward reported a calf injury on Monday morning
The Cleveland Browns got their seventh win of the season on Sunday as they knocked off the Philadelphia Eagles 22-17. The defense really stepped up, for the second game in a row, and a big part of that was the play of Denzel Ward.
Cleveland’s top cornerback was credited with breaking up four passes and had his second interception of the season. He came up just shy of making it two picks, but he was all over the Eagles receivers. Ward even made some great tackles in run support.
Unfortunately, the news following the game wasn’t as good. Ward reported to the team on Monday that he has a calf injury and an MRI will determine the severity. According to Mary Kay Cabot, head coach Kevin Stefanski is unaware of how serious the injury is.
This comes on the heels of news that Myles Garrett will not play again in Week 12 as the Browns head to Florida for a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Garrett was also out of their contest against the Eagles, but with him gone, the entire defense stepped up.
Not only did Ward have his best game of the season, but Olivier Vernon was also playing out of his mind with three sacks — one of which went for a safety.
Cleveland has been snake-bitten on defense as they are already without Grant Delpit and Greedy Williams. They also lost Ronnie Harrison during the Philly game, and he is being called ‘day to day’ with a knee injury.
